Today, most carriers require agents to contract under a National Marketing Organizations (NMOs). An NMO’s job is to recruit, train & support agents to sell various insurance products. You get paid by the carrier when you sell a plan; and then the carrier also separately compensates your NMO.

Keep in mind that not all NMOs are created equal, and neither is the support they provide! The right NMO partner can significantly impact your future sales. NMOs get paid by the carriers to support agents in selling the insurance products they offer. In theory, no NMO should charge a partner for service or support. Unfortunately, there are NMOs that charge for services and/or require their agents to meet certain criteria to become eligible for services.
